Introduction

Hey everyone, advance here. This is not your usual deviant art page. Here you will find hacks. These are hacks on dlls and exe's that come with windows. This username is dedicated to all the modifications you will find on my desktop.

What you will see

Here you will find a variety of screenshots of programs or .dlls customised to my liking. You will also find a script in the description. You are free to use that script however you like, as long as you leave me a note along with it, I would like to know where my work was going.

To get you started

Windows XP, while some people would think, is highly customisable, is FAR FAR from it. You will start to realize that if you take up hacking.

This is not really hacking by definition, what you are really doing is altering or modifing. You take a program called Reshacker, which you can get by clicking this [link]

Quoted from the site above, "Resource HackerTM is a freeware utility to view, modify, rename, add, delete and extract resources in 32bit Windows executables and resource files (*.res). It incorporates an internal resource script compiler and decompiler and works on Win95, Win98, WinME, WinNT, Win2000 and WinXP operating systems."

Basicly, you can modify programs and dlls, editing anything from the cursors, icons, bitmaps, GIFs, AVIs, or JPGs. So you download this program. Now you can start! Open up a program to hack. Notepad for example. You will see a bunch of folders, those are your resources. Icons are the icons, Menu's are the menu, such as File, Edit, etc, The dialogs are the placements of text areas and things like that, and String Tables are the lables for everything. Any wording you really see, excluding menus are in the String Tables. Icon Groups are what the actual group of Icons, making replacing them much much easier. Version Info and "24" are nothing to hack, just other information. So start hacking away, you can only really rearange and modify the Menu with this program, but once you get the hang of it, you can start mocing on to system files.

System Files

System Files are a bit more tricky, for one, you can't just save them over the old ones, you need a command called Replacer. To get this, click on this [link]

"Replacer is an easy to use system file replacer for Windows 2K/XP. It is used to safely replace protected or in use system files.

The zipped package is 9kb. Extract, run, and follow the on-screen instructions."

So, you save your hacked file to lets say, c:/hacked files. You then just follow the instructons after you click replacer.cmd. Make sure that all of the files from Replacer.zip are in a folder, and that either you click it from the folder, or create a shortcut. Remember, if you mess up these files, you just might be having to start clean.

Replacing Icons/Icon Groups

This is so much fun to do, and just so easy. Like going to any other resource, you click the title bar, and view the Icon. When replacing Icons, it is best to just get the icon groups, you can replace the whole bunch of them in the group instead of one at a time. Save "The Blank Icon" to your computer, go to the icon group, click "Action," click "Replace Icon," browse to the blank icon, and then hit "Replace."

Now you should be ready to hack. I provide you scripts so you can get a head start. Another good site to check out is WinTweaker. You can go to his site and the forums there, Winmod, by clicking on this [link]

Thats all for now, maybe more to come.
